Lifestyle family photography is about remembering your family as they really are, not as a perfectly posed version of themselves. It captures the hugs, belly laughs, wild energy, quiet snuggles, and little details that make this season of your life yours.
As a mom of four, I know how fast those details can change. One day, your child wants to be carried everywhere. Then, somehow, they’re too big for your hip. Their favorite toy changes. Their tiny hand grows. Even the way they laugh sounds a little different.
Of course, you’ll want photographs where everyone’s face can be seen. But I also want to give you something more. I want to capture what loving your family feels like right now. That’s where lifestyle family photography comes in.
Hi, I’m Meg, an Albany-based family photographer serving the Capital Region and Hudson Valley. I use lifestyle family photography to capture the laughter, snuggles, and little moments that make your family yours. My sessions are relaxed and playful, giving you space to simply enjoy your people while I document it all. I’d love to help tell your family’s story.

Traditional family photos often focus on getting everyone into the right spot and looking at the camera. Lifestyle family photography takes a different approach. Instead of trying to make every moment look perfect, we leave room for your family to connect.
That doesn’t mean I show up and leave you wondering what to do. I’ll guide you throughout your session. I use simple prompts, movement, and games to help everyone relax. You might walk together, cuddle your kids, play a game, or scoop up your toddler for a hug.
While all of that is happening, I’m watching for the little moments in between.
Maybe your child reaches for your hand. Perhaps one sibling whispers something that makes the other burst out laughing. Your toddler may decide they’re completely done with my plan and start exploring instead.
Those moments aren’t interruptions. They’re part of your family’s story.

It’s easy to think you need a photo where everyone is smiling at the camera. And yes, I love getting a few of those too. Still, the images that pull at your heart years later are often the ones you couldn’t have planned.
Think about the things you love about your kids right now.
Maybe your youngest gives huge, messy kisses. Your child might hide their face against your chest when they’re feeling shy. Perhaps your kids wrestle every time they sit on the couch together, even though you’ve asked them about a thousand times to stop.
Right now, those things may feel like normal life. Some may even drive you a little crazy. Years from now, though, they may be the details you’d give anything to experience one more time.
Lifestyle family photography gives those ordinary moments a place to live.
Instead of only showing what your family looked like, your photographs can remind you how this chapter felt.

Kids usually don’t want to sit still and smile on command for an hour. Frankly, I don’t blame them. That’s why lifestyle family photography gives kids room to be themselves.
During your session, your kids are free to:
This takes the pressure off you, too. You don’t have to spend the session reminding everyone to smile or look at the camera. Instead, you can focus on loving your people and enjoying your time together.
I’ll guide you when you need it, then let the rest unfold. That’s when the real personalities come out, along with the giggles, silly faces, bear hugs, and sweet little glances you know so well.

Some of the best family memories don’t seem important while they’re happening.
They happen on the couch while everyone piles together. They happen when your child climbs onto your back. They’re tucked into bedtime snuggles, backyard games, messy snacks, bare feet, and the way a little hand fits inside yours.
These moments can feel too ordinary to photograph. I think that’s exactly why they matter.
Big milestones are important, of course. Birthdays, new babies, and other changes deserve to be remembered. Yet family life is mostly made up of smaller moments between those big days.
Lifestyle family photography celebrates those everyday details.
It gives you permission to stop worrying about making everything look perfect. Your kids don’t need to behave a certain way. Your family doesn’t need matching outfits. You simply need to show up ready to spend time together.
The connection is already there. My job is to help you see it.

You don’t need a fancy location to create meaningful family photographs. Often, the best place is somewhere your family already feels comfortable.
Your home can be perfect because it’s where so many everyday memories happen:
If your family loves being outside, we can choose a favorite spot around Albany, the Capital Region, or the Hudson Valley. Maybe that means exploring a trail, running through a field, or playing together in your own backyard.
The location doesn’t need to be perfect. It simply needs to give your family space to connect and be yourselves. Years from now, even the places in the background may bring back memories you didn’t expect.

Before your session, we’ll plan the details together. We can talk about location, clothing, your kids, and anything else that will help you feel ready.
Once the session starts, you don’t need to know how to pose. I’ll guide you with playful prompts and simple ideas that create connection without making things feel stiff.
We might start with everyone close together before adding more movement. Your kids may want to explore, so we’ll work with that. If someone needs a break or a little extra time, that’s okay too.
Most importantly, I’m not waiting for your family to become some calmer, tidier, more polished version of itself.
I want the real one.
I want the child who can’t stop moving, the sibling giggles, the big hugs, and even a little chaos. Those pieces help tell a fuller story.
By the end, my goal is for you to feel like you spent time loving on your family instead of spending the whole session trying to get a perfect photograph.
