Why Choose an Albany Newborn Lifestyle Photographer?

As an Albany newborn lifestyle photographer, I am drawn to a relaxed and authentic approach when it comes to documenting this important milestone in your family’s life.  When I first started my photography journey years ago I was intimidated by photographing newborns.  How did you get them to sleep?  What if they didn’t sleep?  What if they cried the entire time?  I was conflicted.  On the one hand, I had been drawn to photography when my own daughter was born and I loved documenting her itty bittiness.  On the other hand, I found myself shying away from newborn sessions because of the pressure that came with posing a sleeping newborn.

Then I stumbled upon newborn lifestyle photography.  I was already drawn to family lifestyle photography, so why not newborn lifestyle photography?  A newborn session is after all, just a really important milestone for a family.  No beanbag needed.  No silly hats or other props for a naked baby to wear.  If it’s cold enough for a hat, why would the baby be naked?!  And so began my journey of documenting the real, raw, and honest moments.  Documenting the connection between mom, dad, and their new bundle of joy.  The unconditional love that is portrayed in a photo where mom and dad aren’t looking at me, but at the reason we’ve all come together – their new baby.  Why choose a newborn lifestyle session over a posed newborn session?  Because of the love, connection, and authenticity the images portray.

Twenty years from now do you want to look back and remember “the day the photographer dressed up our baby and took pictures” or do you want to remember the first fleeting weeks with your new baby?  How it felt to bring new life into the world.  The immediate love you felt for your newborn.  Getting lost in her eyes when you stared into them.  The way your heart skipped a beat when she yawned and stretched her arms above her head.

5 Reasons to choose an Albany Newborn Lifestyle session:

1. You don’t have to leave the house.  No need to pack up and drive to a studio, newborn lifestyle sessions are done in the comfort of your own home.
2. The session doesn’t have to be scheduled within the first week of your newborn’s life.  It’s not necessary for the baby to sleep the entire time, so it’s ok if she’s a couple of weeks old.
3. It’s ok if your newborn never sleeps.  In fact, sometimes it’s more desirable to have images of your baby awake.  The images of baby awake and interacting with family members will be that much stronger in conveying emotion.
4. More comfortable for the baby.  He will never be in an unnatural pose.  There is no need to prop him up on his hands (newborns can’t hold their heads up, after all).  This helps everyone (mom and dad, and baby) relax and enjoy the session.
5. The images are timeless and authentic.  It’s not about what props and poses are “popular” or “in style” at the moment.  I am documenting your reality.  The little details of your life.  These images are timeless and will forever be treasured by your family!
