NY Wedding Photographer | Katie and Jonathan

I first met Katie about 25 years ago.  At the time, Katie was doing backflips off her diving board and dancing on balance beams.  I can’t even do a cartwheel, so you can imagine how impressed I was.  Fast forward, and Katie traded in playing sports for event planning for professional sports teams (e.g. the Buffalo Bills, no big deal) and met Jonathan, a golf pro (also, no big deal).

So when Katie asked me if I would be their wedding photographer, obviously the only answer was YES!  How many weddings have you been to where Billy Buffalo joined the guests on the dance floor for “Let’s go Buffalo”?!

Katie’s attention to detail as an event planner made photographing her reception at Larkin Square a photographer’s dream.  Every single thing from the pillows and Champagne glasses at the head table to the menu and coasters was personal and unique.  When guests walked from the ceremony to the reception they found their table number on a cut out Buffalo with a handwritten message from Katie and a glass of Champagne.  What could possibly be better than a handwritten note from the bride accompanied by a glass of Champagne?  Gorgeous signs designed by Katie’s Maid of Honor stood out everywhere.  I’m torn between the signature cat cocktail and the pizza and beer in love, directing guests to the after party across the street as my favorite.  And the desserts!  Between cookies shaped like high heels (Katie has a small shoe obsession), cat cake pops (K & J are also big cat fans) and cupcake flower pots (which I thought were actual flowers when I first saw them), everything was beautiful.

Katie and Jonathan met at the Glen Park Tavern where Katie was bartending in 2013.  A week later they went on their first date and after 4 years of dating, Jonathan proposed at the very spot they had their first date.  I first met Jonathan this past June when I photographed their engagement session along Hertel Ave.  I’m not sure what Jonathan was whispering to Katie during their session, but he had her laughing and smiling from ear to ear for an hour and a half.  There’s not much that can compete with a great love story; and I’m honored I was able to document theirs.  Katie and Jonathan, thank you for inviting me to be part of your wedding.  Congratulations to you both, this is just the beginning!
