Every year on the eve of their birthday, I tell my children their birth story. I’ll say “six years ago at this very moment we were driving to the hospital” or “Nana and Grandaddy had just left Buffalo and were speeding here to meet you” or “We just couldn’t believe how little you were”. We scroll through early photos of them and they ask a gazillion questions. They love hearing the story of their birth and the days, weeks, and months that followed.
Understandably so. Who doesn’t like to hear stories about themselves and more importantly, they don’t have any recollection of their first couple of years. Being able to share photos of them when they were just days old is a priceless gift. And for them to see how they were so very, very loved, from the very second they entered our lives. Newborn photography is not something we do for ourselves, but a gift we give to our children. A gift they can share with their own children someday. And isn’t that the most important thing? To pass down our stories and our love from generation to generation.
