What to Wear: Spring Photos Edition

What to Wear to Your Spring Photo Session: 5 Simple Tips

Spring is one of the most beautiful times of the year to take photos—everything’s in bloom, the light is soft, and the air feels fresh. The sun sets late and everyone is happy and excited to be outside after another long, upstate NY winter! But when it comes to choosing what to wear, it can be tricky to find that perfect balance between comfortable, stylish, and photo-ready. Here are 5 easy tips to help you feel confident and look amazing during your spring photo session:

What to Wear to your Maternity Photo session in the spring

1. Stick to Soft, Light Colors

Pastels and neutral tones work beautifully in spring photos. Think blush pink, baby blue, sage green, ivory, or light peach. These colors reflect light well and pair naturally with spring scenery. Avoid bright/neon colors. They can reflect unflattering light onto your face and often clash with natural backdrops.

2. Keep Patterns Minimal

Florals, subtle stripes, or small prints are great—but avoid bold or overly busy patterns. They can be distracting and may clash with outdoor backgrounds.

3. Choose Flowy, Comfortable Fabrics

Spring is all about lightness. Go for breathable materials like cotton, linen, or chiffon. Flowy dresses, soft button-downs, or skirts can add movement and a dreamy vibe to your shots.

4. Coordinate, Don’t Match

Pick a color palette with 2–3 complementary tones and a few supporting neutrals (like white, cream, tan, or gray). You don’t all need to wear the same exact color—just make sure your outfits feel cohesive.

5. Add Simple Accessories

Think light jewelry, a sun hat, or a floral hair clip. Accessories can add a pop of personality without overpowering the outfit.

BONUS TIP!

Regardless of the season, my number one tip for Moms is to pick something comfortable that they like on themselves! This sounds obvious, but sometimes we’re so wrapped up in looking “perfect” that we choose something based on how it looks in a magazine or on a model. Nothing makes you look more uncomfortable than being uncomfortable! You will be running, playing, sitting, dancing, MOVING during your photo session! So be sure to choose something that will move with you and that you love when you look in the mirror!

The key is to feel like yourself while also embracing the season. With these tips, you’ll be camera-ready and confident—ready to let your personality shine through every shot! Ready to book your Spring Session? Email Meg at meg@megmosher.com
