While I was pregnant with Lucy, I spent a significant amount of time decorating her nursery.  It was beautiful.  It was gray, yellow, and turquoise and elephants were the major animal theme.  I would spend Friday nights on etsy looking for little things to add to it and even created my own artwork; punching out mini elephants and gluing them to craft paper.

I don’t have a single picture of her nursery.  We moved when she was a year and a half and it never occurred to me to document this room that I had poured my heart and soul into while I was pregnant with her.

So when the Dolan’s contacted me about doing a session inside their new home, I couldn’t have been more exited.  I’ve been photographing the Dolan’s for the last 4 years and we’ve always chosen an outdoor location.  But after two years of looking for the perfect home, they moved in this past winter.  And what better way to document a new home than with photos!  I think they were a little hesitant at first – in home sessions can be a little intimidating and everyone thinks their home needs to be spotless (It does not).  But it was perfect.  It was relaxed and fun and I know they will treasure these images for years to come.  And we didn’t have to reschedule when it rained all morning!  Bonus!

One day the playroom will become the computer room.  Ten pairs of your children’s shoes won’t fit on the windowsill anymore (that’s where we keep ours :)).  And you probably won’t have a little tykes basketball hoop in your kitchen when your son has moved onto shooting baskets in your driveway.  We don’t spend much time thinking about how much our home changes, but it is changing just as quickly as our children are growing up.  So take a chance on an in home session.  I guarantee you won’t regret it.

As for the Dolan’s, they have a beautiful home, definitely one worth documenting!  And while Andrew won’t always have stars on his ceiling and Grace won’t always be playing with dolls on a black and white rug in the playroom, they’ll always remember that at one time they did.  And those are memories worth documenting.
